Leslee Jane
Leslee is a jingle dancer & dance instructor from Surrey BC.
Leslee Jane with film & TV star Tom Jackson
Kamloops Pictures interviewed Leslee the weekend of April 26,27 & 28 2007.

Leslee wore the jingle dress and danced healing prayers during the 9th Annual Honouring Young Women Pow Wow in Chua Chua.

Jane says the version of the jingle dress and dance story that she heard was passed on to her by Jerry Peters and dates back approximately 80 years.

According to this version the creation of the jingle dress started in Lake of The Woods, Ontario, where a young girl called Maggie White was very sick.

Her father went on a vision quest and as a result experienced a vision. Determining the meaning of his vision the father stated that the jingle dress was for those who believed in a traditional way of life. The dress was to be given for the purpose of healing. Maggee White wore the dress, was healed, and lived to be 80 years old.

Jane says the jingle dress is made up of cones usually made from snuff lids.

There are 365 jingles on a dress to represent each day of the year plus one for the dancer.

As the jingles are sewn on the dress in various shapes and patterns each one is en-hued with a prayer for healing.

As the dancer dances the cones chime together like rain on a tin roof and prayers are released to the spectators.
